For many of us, with March came an anniversary we weren’t expecting to celebrate – one year of staying home to save the world. As we look back on a very unexpected year, it’s inevitable to reflect on all the hobbies that were picked up worldwide, from baking to gaming and everything in between.
And then, of course, there’s all the “I should” moments. For me, it was “I should take up blogging again.” Easier said than done, though, because I spent the greater part of this past year following that up with “But what will I even blog about?”
So, if you’re anything like me and need some inspiration, here are 10 things to get you started in putting pen to virtual paper:
1. Books
Read anything interesting lately? Have a list of favorite books? Is there a book you think the world is missing out on?
Write a review! Write out your thoughts on the latest Twilight book (whatever they may be), or make a list of which you think are the best (or worst) film adaptations of books you love. Tell us your top reads of 2020, or which books have been in your TBR forever.
2. Food
Were you part of that moment when everyone was baking and there was no flour left in supermarkets? Did you perfect a recipe for banana bread? Are you now an expert in building a meal out of whatever you can find in your fridge?
Or maybe you hate cooking, but now have strong opinions on which restaurants have the best takeout options! Food is a big part of our daily lives, so I’m sure we all have something to say there.
3. Your Pet(s)
Whether you were already a pet parent before March 2020 or you welcomed a new member into the family during the quarantine (guilty, and not mad about it!), if you have a pet you know that there are always good stories to tell regarding our furry (or scaled, feathered, or spiky) companions.
If you’re a veteran pet parent, tell us things you think we should know. If you’re a new parent, share your experience as it’s happening!
4. Movies & Shows
If you haven’t binge-watched anything during lockdown, you are a rare breed of human. If you have, however, write about what you watched, or what you’re currently watching. Write out your thoughts about popular shows or tell the world what shows we should definitely know about.
Just remember – no spoilers!
5. Fashion
This is something which already had a different definition for everyone before the pandemic. Now, style is more individual than ever! Write about what’s currently in your closet, how your wardrobe changed during the pandemic, how it didn’t change but you wore things you never used to wear, or what items you realized you can’t live without.
Anything goes in fashion, but now that has a totally different meaning.
6. Fitness
Were you a gym rat before lockdown? Did you decide this was the perfect time to get fit and healthy?
Share which workouts you liked best, or what you did to balance out that quarantine baking!
7. Plants
Raise your hand if you adopted a plant (or two, or five) this past year.
Maybe it’s because we were all a bit starved for contact with living beings, but plants literally bring life to all spaces! Do you have a green thumb? Are you a first-time plant parent? Write about your experience, and share some pictures – I have yet to come across an ugly plant!
8. Home Decor
I definitely wasn’t used to spending every single day at home, and little by little I began rearranging my room and realizing what I really liked and what I didn’t!
I know I’m not alone in this, and I also know there are many people who are way more talented at interior design than I am. So share what you did to adapt your space to your liking!
9. Self Care
This is a big one, and maybe should be higher on the list. Everyone experienced the lockdown differently, and we were inevitably forced to spend more time with ourselves than we were used to. For some, it was harder than others, and everyone has different ways of taking care of themselves.
What does that mean for you? Is it bath bombs and candles? Yoga? Singing in the shower? Painting?
10. Anything and Everything!
What is your favorite hobby? Are you a gamer? A beekeeper? What are you passionate about?
Write about that, and I assure you there will be an audience who is interested in reading about it!
